- Our Story -

The New Author Journey began with a simple idea:
document what it really looks like to write and release a first book,
and let others learn from the process in real time. As a new author myself,
I share my own wins, mistakes, and lessons—then bring in other authors
and publishing professionals so you can see many different paths to a first book.

R. Lawrence Porter has spent a career at the intersection of story, service, and scholarship.

A filmmaker, firefighter, Peace Corps volunteer, and former Army Special Forces officer, he has produced award‑winning documentaries, textbook media, and educational content used worldwide. Porter also curated a major exhibit on changing media formats for Brigham Young University’s Harold B. Lee Library, where he also taught research, writing, and technology.

His speculative fiction, The Rules of Invisibility, merges history, legend, and moral philosophy into a high-concept exploration of unseen guardians shaping the modern world. It's entertaining, intelligent, and profoundly uplifting.
